Most homes allow for the maximum of 7kW charging. However, if you are looking at getting an EV charger installed at your workplace or factory, you will most likely need a 22kW. To be sure please call 1300 725 434 and take a few photos of your switchboard for our electrician to look at and give you a definite answer.
Yes, you can! If you have a solar PV system at home. The ZJ Beny and Zappi units we supply are two of the few brands on the market that gives you the ability to put your charger on Solar only. This means the charger will ramp itself up or down depending on the available excess solar it can utilise.
The solar mode can be manually switched on or off within the mobile app.
If your preferred brand of charger does not have this function (such as the Tesla wall connector), you may be able to utilise the Charge HQ app, which connects the charger with your battery and inverter via API (application programming interface). This app has a range of integrated EV chargers and inverters and you will be able to control your solar charging via the Charge HQ app.Ā
Please note, you will need a strong wifi connection at the EV charger and the switchboard location for the API to work properly.
The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is a common language for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and the software that manages them. This means that any EV chargers that follows OCPP rules can work with any software that also follows those rules. It is the standard way for EV charging stations and management software to communicate with each other around the world.
For most cases of home EV charging, OCPP is not needed, unless you are planning to use the Charge HQ app or similar. Most smart home EV chargers come with their own app that gives you the ability to manage charging remotely.Ā
Dynamic load balancing (DLB) in home EV charging is a system that automatically adjusts the power distribution among multiple electrical appliances based on the available electrical capacity and the current demand. It ensures that the total power draw does not exceed the limits of your homeās electrical system or cause your house to lose power. By distributing the available power, it ensures that the system operates within safe limits.
The cost of installing an EV charging station at home varies depending on factors such as the charger model, your home's electrical setup, and the complexity of the installation. At EV Charger Guy, we offer transparent pricing and a detailed quote based on your requirements.
Installing an EV charger at home is a worthwhile investment. It provides the convenience of charging your vehicle overnight, makes for a reliable and efficient charging experience, and can potentially save you money on energy costs when combined with off-peak energy plans. However, never install an EV charger yourself as it is illegal. Only a licensed electrician can install one.
